Artist Donna Boles
I am a self taught artist with a God given talent. I was born and reside in Franklin County, VA...The Moonshine Capital of the World. I had Great Grandfathers on both sides of the family who were artists! One made his own paints and traveled by horse and buggy for many miles to Hillsville, VA to stay at the Historical Sidney Allen Home. He was commissioned by Floyd Allen to paint faux marble throughout the home. The Allen family were later involved in a shooting at the Carroll County Courthouse. The event that took this story off of the front of the New York Times was the sinking of the Titanic!!
As a teenager I did many charcoal pictures for the Historical Society. I later bought an airbrush, and did portraits, T-shirts, and murals. I also taught an airbrush workshop at Ferrum College for Jane Stogner's class. I started working on paint brush techniques and gave up the airbrush. I painted many murals for churches, businesses, and homes. I also worked with Dutch Sculptor Vandersommen learning mold making techniques, and did resin castings of his sculptures in my art studio. I also assisted a college class from Ferrum in their mold making a few days in my art studio. I currently do commissions of people and pets, and when I get time I paint for fun. In 2016, I won a 3rd place ribbon in The Bath County Art Show, and I have won several ribbons at The Westlake Best Pick Art Show.
